This beautiful 1001 g silver coin is dedicated to the Thousand and One Nights, a collection tales from the Islamic Golden Age, compiled by various authors over many hundreds of years. Struck from 1001 g silver 999 BU, the high relief coin is adorned with colored enamel and special polished finish of certain elements. The worldwide mintage is limited to 300 pieces; a specially designed luxury presentation case and a CoA are also included.
The traditional obverse of the Niue coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.
A relief and detailed image of beautiful Scheherezade is the centerpiece of the coin, while the background is filled with scenes and characters from other stories of the Thousand and One Nights: Aladdin’s Wonderful Lamp, Ali Baba and Forty Thieves, and Sinbad the Sailor. The work was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators, and scholars across West, Central, and South Asia and North Africa. The tales themselves trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Mesopotamian, Indian, and Egyptian folklore and literature.
